The Wagoon is slowly morphing into a race car. The interior has been stripped of all components (windows/cranks, panels, headliner, carpet, dash, sound deadening, weatherstripping, etc), and then I sold it all on Craigslist for $100. The interior sound deadening material was a long project to remove, but I collected it all in a trashbag and it totalled 20 lbs! The dash weighed 20 lbs, it’s frame alone weighed 10 lbs. For what its worth, the steel hood weighs 30 lbs. The gas tank is now out, and up for sale. The 14×7 Panasports with 225/50 tires fit nicely under the rear, and they will just need a little lip rolling to work right. The fronts will require the bubble flares to fit right, especially if I want to use any spacers. I’m tracking down some 280ZX struts to turn into front coilovers, and I’ve bought a 620 pickup rearend to get the 4.38:1 Ring & Pinion out of. I’m trying to see if the budget will allow a Wilwood brake system, but I’ll probably end up using 280ZX brakes up front, and 200SX discs on the rear. Next, its time to strip the paint, get some primer on, finish stripping the suspension off, and do the rollcage prep.
Thanks for the note Umai. I’ve been a Datsun fan since my first car 28 years ago! And I wanted my next race car to be something really different… Hope you check back in as the build progresses. Troy
I love that you are using a wagon for your race car!
I’m a long time 510 fanatic and love the wagons and 4 doors more than the 2 doors.
