It was the last race of the decade for me, and 2019 has been the busiest (and most expensive) season of my racing career. Ten full race weekends and a couple test days sure broke the budget, but boy did I have a lot of fun. My race craft certainly improved, I learned a heck of a lot, and I even won a couple of races. My understanding wife sure put up with a lot and I couldn’t do it without her understanding of my racing addiction.
This weekend’s race was with VARA at their season finale Big Bore Bash at Willow Springs Raceway. Typical fall weather in the desert with mornings in the 30’s and highs in the 70’s, and wonderfully calm winds. The track seemed a bit slower than expected with a recent reseal and good weather, but I was still able to post a PB. My Pro Mazda is a bit modern for racing in vintage, but the guys in the Club don’t seem to mind me filling out the Wings & Slicks group as long as I keep the racing clean. I enjoyed racing with the fast ’70’s 2 Liter sports racers of Ed Swart and Scott Bader, having some fun back and forths. The evening pit camaraderie topped the cake for one great season!
