VARA had their season finale this week at Willow Springs Int’l Raceway. Mornings were in the high 20’s (!!!), afternoons in the 60s, with sunny (but smokey) skies all weekend. The first groups out each day had quite the challenge to get their cars started and warmed up, I went out mid-morning with about five square feet of duct tape covering up most of my inlet ducts.
Lucas Oil Products sponsored the Big Bore races, including the Sunday Pursuit race. Our Big Bore rookie Richard Benevedes placed second by running consistent laps even after being sent out first as the slowest qualifier. Great job!
I was racing my Elan PFM in the vintage Wings & Slicks Group, and enjoyed some great racing. It was nice for VARA to allow me to bring out a modern car to run with them, they really are an inclusive club.
