It’s been a cold and wet winter so far (at least for us fairweather Northern Californians), and I’ve been itching for a ride. I hooked my bike up to the battery charger yesterday and noticed the clock was still set on Daylight Savings time! At least that meant the battery wasn’t dead yet… So today started off clear and windy, in the mid 40’s, with a forecasted high in the upper 50’s, definitely good enough to get out there and burn some hydrocarbons. My riding buddy answered the call with a “Hell yeah”, and off we went. We traveled south through the Santa Cruz mountains and eventually headed west to the coast highway. On the cool and damp roads through the hillside, it was wonderful to be on an unfaired bike. I could feel the temperature climbs and drops as we rode in and out of the pine forest shadows. My olfactory senses were alive with the smells of the wet forest floor, the horse pastures, the sea mist, even the roadkill skunk couldn’t ruin the effect. And I really came to appreciate the heated handgrips the previous owner added to my motorcycle. Rain might be in the forecast, but today was just what the doctor ordered.
