The rod knock I heard at Laguna Seca last month ended up being quite a bit of damage. The crank and the #3 rod were damaged beyond repair. We also discovered that there was some “questionable” machining done by a previous owner of this shortblock, and that some of the parts were not as advertised. Wouldn’t ya know it, just about the only piece of this entire build we didn’t do ourselves was the shortblock. “Trust but verify” takes on a whole new meaning…
Well we decided that a bright red block will bring the Lil’ Red Wagon just the luck it needs to run trouble-free for the next several events. The plan is now to make it out to Phoenix for the December SCCA Vintage event at PIR. It’s a 12+ hour tow, but how do you pass up racing in December!
