Well, we tried to race on the freshly paved Laguna Seca Raceway during the first weekend of July, and hundreds of us showed up to give the new asphalt a go. But… I only got 4 laps in on the Friday Test day before we had a Red Flag incident with a burning car that melted a spot at the top of the Corkscrew. Track analysis showed that not only would repairs need to be done there, but there were other sections of the track not holding up well (not enough cure time???). Unfortunately at that point the track management cancelled the event and we were all sent home.
So we came back the last weekend of July to try it all over again, and yes, the track was wonderful. Super smooth, lots of grip, and Personal Bests were happening all around. We had a good sized run group of wings & slicks, 35+ cars, with lots of good (and chaotic) multi-class racing all weekend. The track will probably never look this good ever again.
