SFR and PF2000 had a great event this weekend at WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway (it’s gonna take me a while to get used to the new name). WeatherTech, SCRAMP, and the County seem to be playing well together for now, as track maintenance and upgrades are occurring, and there are rumors Indy cars will be coming back soon. Great bonus for us local club racers who get to use this terrific facility. Typical summer weather in Monterey, CA, foggy mornings with sunny and cool afternoons, a wonderful break from the heat and fires of this summer.
Lots of open-wheel action with two large formula car/sports racer Groups running, actually more than I’ve seen at a Regional in quite awhile. The upcoming Sonoma Runoffs has a lot of racers getting in last chance testing, racing, and points accumulation. Great to see some new faces as well, including a couple teenagers making the jump from carting. The Pacific F2000 series has a tight battle going on in their Zetec Class with three drivers all in contention for the title with the final race at Sonoma coming up. Imagine racing for both a SCCA Runoff win and a F2000 title the same weekend, talk about a little pressure…
The Pinto F2000 class was a bit thin this weekend as a few of my fellow competitors were either fixing broken cars, saving money for the Runoffs, or out on family vacations. Ah well, I ran my best times ever while chasing down the back of the Zetec pack this weekend and enjoyed some great fellowship sharing the pits with my FF/CF buddies.
