I’m happy to say that I was able to compete in both the SFR SCCA and CSRG 2024 season finales held at Thunderhill Raceway on consecutive weekends. Both events welcomed wonderful California Fall weather, and both clubs held their season-ending banquets. Awards were handed out, thanks were given, and cheer was shared.
My Lola ran well, while dealing with the expected post-rebuild issues like dialing in the tune and setup. I ran on Hoosier tires for the first time for these two events after running Avons the previous three seasons. They seem to be a second or two slower (maybe it’s just me getting older), but they ran pretty consistent times through ten heat cycles and were less expensive, so that’s a good sign. Rumor has it that Nova Motorsports (Avon’s new owner) may have their old compounds back under construction for next season, but at least we now have a good alternative tire to rely on.
The last races of the season tend to be a bit thinly attended as cars are broken and budgets have been blown, and we didn’t have many sports racers show up for either event, but I did have some good close racing each weekend with those that did show up. We’re getting the word out about the sports racer renaissance and have hopes for some more cars to come out and join us next season.
