This weekend I attended HSR West’s summer event at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. I usually don’t make this event as it’s a long drive and it’s normally 100+F degrees. But this year the weather was great (85), and I had the opportunity to visit some racing buddies from AZ who also came out for the race. It was a great show, featuring an All-Datsun race on Sunday, and Historic Indy cars lapping the oval each day. John Morton joined the field for the weekend, and showed us why he was the Champ back in the 70s. There was also a nice gathering at the Riverside Int’l Automotive Museum Friday night featuring Legends from the Riverside Raceway and from the Datsun Championship era. Guests included Mr. Morton, Bobby Unser, Kas Kastner, Tony Adamowicz, Jack Scoville, Frank Honsowitz, and others.
The wagon ran well, but I’m still hunting down a high rpm miss, and the long dwell at WOT reminded me I need a larger oil cooler. I raced mid-pack most of the time but enjoyed some great dicing with the B-Sedan group. I got down in the 2:01s all wknd, so I’m gonna have to go back next year and break that 2 minute mark! According to my math, Turn 1 entry speeds for the wagon were 130mph.
Flying the Savvy Cities flag, to thank my beautiful wife for her support..

Very cool site and very cool car – now I know who was driving that 510 Wagon. Around 2:00 is pretty damn respectable. Anyway, I found your site looking for other information on the HSR West event at ACS. I wrote a bit about it on my blog, socalspeedscene.com (short link: http://wp.me/p2lHXB-8N) and posted quite a few pictures. There’s one of you in the gallery…
Your on my blogroll.
