Yesterday I went through some options for my race wagon with Paul Moore, owner of The Moore Speed Co. The current rear suspension has the OE configuration of leaf springs and live axle. Pictures here show the previous owner’s unique multi-link system. It anchors the rear diff to the frame rails at the forward leaf spring perches, so as to limit lateral movement while allowing vertical movement. We are now considering cutting out the entire leaf/live and welding in an IRS from a sedan to increase the performance options. With an independent rear we have more choices of spring rates, gear ratios, and alignment settings, as well as the inherent handling improvements over a solid rear. Also an independent rear has lower unsprung weight due to it’s chassis-mounted differntial. We have decided against the rear wing however.
