We had a great weekend of racing at Sonoma Raceway even though we are still operating under the COVID protocols. 175 cars signed up to race and we had fantastic Spring weather for the event with lows in the 40’s and highs in the 70’s. We had a smaller turnout than usual in Group 4’s USRRC contingent, but as long as you’ve got a couple good cars to race with, you’re still having fun. CSRG scheduled the races using their new format of Friday afternoon Practice, Saturday morning Qualifying, and then three Flag races (Sat PM, Sun AM, and Sun PM). I love this new format, more time racing and less time doing Quali laps or Warm-ups!
The Bobsy ran great all weekend, but it did take me a few sessions to get use to the new tires I was using. I switched to the Avon Vintage Formula Ford tires for a little less grip and less chassis stress. They slide around more but are a lot of fun to drive on once you get the hang of them. Yes, they are a little slower, but I’m not auditioning for Team Penske any longer.
And as always, the Editor took several strolls around the paddock taking pictures of the cars and characters that show up at our vintage races.
