THINGS THAT GO VROOM

ALREADY RACING?

January 8, 2009 by Troy Leave a Comment

img_0623You’ve been racing for a while now, maybe even taken a few checkered flags. You rarely forget something at home, and the rookies come by and ask for your advice. Your friends and family know that you will be at the track on weekends, and some of them actually enjoy coming by and watching you race. But your checkbook looks like a Federal Disaster Area qualifying for Superfund Bailout dollars. How can we keep the expenses of racing under control? How can we Race On The Cheap?

Contract it out or Do it yourself?

Every racer has a different level of mechanical skill and desire. Doing it yourself can save you money, but having to pay someone else to fix your mistakes makes it more expensive than contracting it out in the first place. It is our place as budget racers to be honest and determine our own skill level.
In the future I will be talking about the following race car components, and hopefully you readers will add your hints and insights on how to save money while still doing it right…

  • Chassis
  • Frame
  • Rollcage
  • Suspension
  • Brakes
  • Drivetrain
  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Differential
  • Paint and Bodywork
  • Electrics and Gauges
  • Seats and Harnesses
  • Fire System
  • Tuning and Setup
  • Transport and Pit crew
