Hi, my name is Troy, and I’m an old gearhead.
I race cars, ride motorcycles and mountainbikes, fly jets, I basically like things that go Vroom. This website is for people who like to get a little dirty playing with their Toys That Make Noise! And then if you get bit by the racing bug like me, you will be constantly looking forward to your next race weekend. You’ll constantly dream about taking the checkered flag. And you constantly wonder how you’re gonna pay for it all! When I first started racing I was truly Racing On The Cheap. Luckily I’m not having to buy used tires and sleep in my truck at the races anymore, but I still try to keep the fun-to-expense ratio as high as I can.
Currently I’m racing a 1979 Lola T492 Sports 2000 in vintage and SCCA. I build, tune, tow, and race with the help of my friends and the Auto Spa shop at Sonoma Raceway, and I couldn’t do it without them. And I’m very lucky to be married to my wonderful wife who understands, and lives with, my wheeled-toy habit here in the Half Moon Bay area of California. Below are some pictures of the race cars I’ve been lucky enough to be associated with. Here’s a link to my YouTube page for a few fun videos.
My old 2000 Carbir CS2 (now back east)
My old 2004 Elan Pro Formula Mazda (now racing with Cal Club)
My old ’74 Datsun 710 B-Sedan (now racing in Belgium)
As well as racing my cars, I also enjoy instructing with a couple of race clubs. And by day I work as an airline pilot. Feel free to contact me at ttgovroom@gmail.com

Hi Troy,
stumbled upon your website just now.
Thanks for the upcoming race calendars and the list of vendors you use.
Quite helpful.

Wow, Thomas, great question. Unfortunately none that I know of.

Hi Troy. Love your website. Quick question: my wife wanted to know if there is any racing (non kart racing) where the maximum speed stays under 50-60 mph? She knows I love racing, but even Formula Vee seems too fast for her, and I want to keep her happy. Anyway, it’s kinda a crazy question, but I thought I’d throw it out there. Thanks so much and I love your cars. Thomas

Thanks Bob, I’m honored to follow in the footprints of the Bobsy enthusiasts before me. I look forward to seeing you at the track again soon.

Troy,
What a nice blog and reports on your racing. An excellent format. Thanks for the listings of Rocky Moutain Vintage Racing (RMVR, my home club) and the Bobsy Registry. Both are near and dear to me.
I am so envious of the amazing sports racers at CSRG events. Some really, really great machines and you’ve done a super job representing the Bobsy sports racer cars.

Brilliant site! There are so much useful tips I hardly can stop reading. I’m starting my first season in the MaX5-cup…16 Mazda Miata’s in an exclusive race series.
(oh, please excuse the poor English, I’m from Holland)
Wishing you the best of luck,
Carlo Izelaar

I like your blog, very nice. Being in professional racing, I have often felt this level of racing was underserved. Poorly served in others. This is helpful and informative to the novice racer. I will be keeping up with what you are doing.
Best Regards,
Greg Robb

Thanks Andre. While you’re waiting, make sure to get to the races and meet some of the locals. They’ll be a great help when you’re ready to jump in.

Nice FAQ, I’m itching to get into vintage racing, but have to wait. Simply not ready yet.
