510 COMP OIL PAN

February 23, 2010 by Troy 4 Comments

The California Datsun community came through for me as I finally found the finishing jewel for my vintage Datsun race motor; a finned, cast aluminum racing oil pan. Design Products Racing is still making a very nice, steel comp pan for the 510 for about $600, but I was hunting for a cheaper, used one, and hopefully an old school looking aluminum one. This one has internal baffles and a windage tray. Special thanks to Steve Link for digging this one up for me.

I have a Datsun # 4 aluminum track pan and valve cover.

Hi Kevin, most of the comp pans require a longer (deeper) pickup tube. I recommend doing actual measurements to confirm. You want the pickup screen just a few millimeters from the pan bottom, enough gap to prevent cavitation but deep enough to stay covered in oil under extreme cornering conditions.

Hi Troy, I met you at Vara University in January.

Anyway, I have one of these oil pans too (used) that I’ve never used and was wondering if you have to modify the stock oil pickup to use it with this pan?

    Thanks!
    Kevin
