It’s been several days since the event ended and I’m still downloading the whole thing in my head! There is so much to see and do during Monterey Car Week that it just wears you out. This year’s event was designed to celebrate 100 years of LeMans racing cars and drivers, and the organizers did a great job with all their unique displays. I only attended a few of the various events, but after a week at Laguna Seca Raceway, I can honestly say that I “almost” had my fill ;-)
The week started off with the Pre-Race Downtown Monterey Car Show. We had a CHP led escort from the track to the closed-off downtown street of Alvarado St, where a huge crowd was awaiting us, it was fabulous! Hundreds of folks just wanting to look at and listen to our vintage race cars in a non-track environment, it was pretty darn cool. Then there was the Pre-Reunion race event (that I didn’t race in this year), followed by the newly scheduled Wednesday-Saturday Rolex Reunion. I was on track all four days in Group 2, 1955-1966 SCCA Sports Racers. A terrific group of Lotus’ (Loti?), Elvas, Devins, Sadlers, Genies, and of course a couple of Bobsy’s. I had some time on Friday night to attend the RADWood event at the track, and on Saturday to make it down to the Concours d’ LeMons in Seaside. And to wrap up the week I watched the Inaugural Laguna Seca Hillclimb races on Sunday, an event I hope to participate in in the future.
The mornings were cold and my tires were old, but my Bobsy ran great all week with the help of my crew. We enjoyed the hospitality at the Hagerty Driver’s Lounge everyday and found an excuse to eat too much for dinner every night at someplace special. We saw a lot of old friends and made some new ones too. Can’t wait for next year…
